Baking Cookies and Brownies

Cookies or Brownie

When you really can’t decide between baking cookies or brownies, which one is better? The obvious answer is to bake both, right? Well, combined is better, anyway! Making memories in the kitchen and sharing those with children is one of the greatest parts about being a mom and food writer.

Why not Make Cookies and Brownies?

One thing that is great about cookies and brownies is that they are so versatile. If you have a birthday party coming up, why not make cookies and brownies? For a fun and sweet touch, top off each one with a cute bag of M & M’s to give as gifts. Then just send them home with the rest of your guests for a fun and yet calorie free snack.

Chocolate Chip Cookies

Another way to kick up your comfort food game in the house is with skillet brookie cookies and brownies. As the name would imply, these special cookie treats are made with a skillet and a brookie. You can either use cream cheese or powdered sugar for a healthier alternative to chocolate chip cookies. You can even substitute vegetable fat for the cream cheese if you don’t want to miss out on the taste.

Regular Sugar

Using granulated sugar instead of regular sugar is one way to keep your cookies from becoming too fattening. Also using butter and eggs in place of oil and butter can make for healthier versions as well. I would also suggest sprinkling some coarse salt on top of each one if you wish to. These are great finger foods, perfect for parties or family gatherings. And best of all, they are relatively inexpensive compared to other fried foods.

Taste of Chocolate Chips

If you enjoy making cookies or brownies but aren’t a fan of the taste of chocolate chips, you might want to try making peppermint cookies or even peppermint brownies. Just substitute the chocolate chips for mint leaves and you have a delectable snack fit for any occasion. Although the traditional flavor for this cookie is mint, you can experiment with adding other flavors such as cranberry, lemon, or even chocolate. To add some zest to the recipe, you can also sprinkle a little peppermint extract over the top of the batter.

Crushed Cookie

Crushed cookie dough can be used in place of chips if you’d prefer to keep the overall crunchiness of the cookies intact. You can also substitute the chips for dried fruits, which are also an excellent substitute if you’d like to avoid carbohydrates. The cool temperature of the chips will help ensure that your cookies bake quickly and without breaking. These chips also allow you to bake the cookies in a deeper fashion than traditional chips, giving them a smooth result as well as a delicious taste. Once you’ve added the cool ingredients, you simply press the dough into flat molds, cover them with the plastic wrap and leave to dry.

Homemade Cookies

For baking homemade cookies or brownies, you’ll need to have all the necessary ingredients. Typically, the ingredients needed include baking powder, brown sugar, butter, vanilla, and milk. In order to achieve a smooth result, you should stir your ingredients thoroughly prior to adding them to the pans. If the cookies or brownies are too dry, they’ll become brittle.

Browned Cookies and Brownies

For successful baking, you should have at least two baking sheets. One set of sheets should be lined with aluminum foil, which allows for even cooking. The second sheet of the baking sheet should be lined with lightly floured paper, which will aid in getting even browned cookies and brownies out of the oven. You can bake the cookies or brownies on your baking sheet in the oven or on a griddle, depending on the time you have available and your personal preference.
